About Us / Membership



The Windy City Seals (WCS) is a family oriented sports organization in Chicago, IL whose member interests focus on the promotion of scuba diving, environmental conservation, and education. The club welcomes non-divers, dive students, and other interested people as well as certified divers of all experience levels.

Description
Members of the WCS meet every 3rd Saturday in "odd" months (Jan, Mar, May...) At Carver Park Field House 939 E. 132nd Street.
Chicago, Illinois 60627. The club plans dive excursions to exotic destination every year and is a chapter of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS). Check NABS out at www.nabsdivers.org.
General Information
In addition to leading dive trips the WCS host a number of fun activities for the membership throughout the year as well as community service focused events.

                                                     Our Mission

(a)             Promote scuba diving, water safety, aquatic skills and environmental awareness/conservation;

(b)            Sponsor scuba diving trips and open water educational experiences;

(c)             Promote the development of educational programs for people in the African American community, which will stimulate interest and knowledge in diving for recreational and career opportunities.

(d)            Be an official chapter of the National Association of Black SCUBA Divers (when eligible) by conforming to NABS regulations, paying appropriate fees and promoting NABS activities and events.

 


MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

.             Qualifications.  Membership in the Club shall be open to all divers and diving enthusiast regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, sex, age, handicap or veteran status.

           Classes of Membership. 

           Class One Memberships shall be open to anyone over 18 years of age in agreement with the purpose of the Club

           Class Two Nonvoting Memberships shall be open to persons under the age of 18 and in agreement with the purpose of the Club.

.             Dues.  Each member of the Club shall, upon enrollment pay the annual dues in such amounts as shall be fixed by the Club on an annual basis. The fiscal year shall be January 1st to December 31st.  Dues shall be payable on or before the due date of January 1st of each year. There will be a two-month grace period. When any member shall be in default in the payment of dues for a period of two months after the due day of January 1st, they will be charged a late fee equivalent to one quarter of the yearly dues. New members joining the club will be charged a prorated membership fee according to the quarter of the calendar year.  New members joining the organization in the last quarter of the year will have the benefit of membership for the upcoming year.  Preexisting members are not eligible for these new member benefits and will be required to pay full membership fee regardless of the quarter.

.             New Members.  New member applications shall be reviewed by the Membership Committee.  The review shall include the application, proof of diving certification for Class One and Two Memberships and payment of dues.
